Best Tools for OpenSim -  Building the NPC maker for OpenSim

How to make the NPC Recorder/Player

Make a 0.1 X .1 X .1 sized prim:

size

Give this prim a name, such as NPC recorder:

Give it a name

Click the Content tab and select "New Script"

New Script

Now download this script and save it to disk.  The script  is in .LSL format, which is plain text.  Use any editor to open the script.   Notepad.exe, which is the default for Windows boxes, is brain dead, and everything will end up on one line line.   You can safely ignore this, or use Wordpad or Write.

Write

Highlight all the text and press control-C.

Double click the "New Script" in your Content Tab, and highlight all the text you see.

Click Ctrl-V to paste the script. It should look like this:

Script in place

Now press the "Save" button. and make certain it says "Script Saved". If there are any errors, please check to make sure you deleted all the old script.

Change the name of the script to "Controller".

Name the script Controller

Animations:

Download this zip file and extract it to a folder on your hard drive.

Add the following animations to the Content tab,  or use any animations you already have in your inventory:

Walk  - Plays when the NPC is walking. I changed this to a custom walk for 4-legged animals in our sim

Stand - Plays when the NPC stands, at end of flying, and when pausing at the end of wanders.

Run  - Makes the avatar run, usually just a faster walk, but for 4-legger critters, this should be a gallop.

Fly - For birds, this would be a wing flapping thing.  For people, its a superman-like pose.

Upload these at priority 2, and make sure you have the Loop button checked.

When you are done, it should look like this:

Done

Take a copy of the prim to Inventory.  See the article on Using the NPC Controller.
